If you are a creative type looking to make something a bit different, have a child interested in comics, or if you are simply looking for a way to add a little pizazz to your photos, then Seedling Comic Studio is what you are looking for. Letting you display photos in comic-book style frames, and add suitably bold effects, this little app will add some drama to your picture album.

Blam!

Starting the app you are presented with two bold panels to begin your first comic. Tapping on either of the two inviting camera icons at the center of either quickly gets you into the basics of Seedling’s comic creation. The clean camera display lets you select between front and rear cameras, while a right swipe flips between the different filters.

The filters are great, all giving a nice sense of drama to your image. From creating bulge like distortions to pixelating the image, there is plenty here to spur on your imagination. Once you have everything set perfectly all that is left is to take the picture – and then retake it if you messed up. Your photo is then framed in the comic panel to start your story.

But there plenty more items to punch up your pictures, and Seedling has an inviting bright interface that invites you to start playing with its various options.

Pow!

Menu bars at the top and bottom of the screen give access to all of the options. The top area allows you to move through the pages you have created, and share them via email or selected message platforms - including Facebook Messenger. Parents letting their kids use this don’t worry, there is a math question gating this so younger kids can’t unwittingly share comics.

Creative options provide multiple predesigned panel pages to select between, stickers and speech bubbles to add impact, and cutouts along with the option to add backgrounds from a range of themes to make scenes more dramatic. The last of these is also where Seedling introduces it payment model, with additional packs costing a nominal fee. You get plenty for free, however, so this is tough to complain.

Some features are a little fiddly at first, particularly when working with cutouts and backgrounds. But you will pick it up quickly and a generous number of redo and undo options mean that you can just keep trying until you get it right.

Shazam!

Seedling Comic Studio is a joyous little photo editing and album app. While it is squarely aimed at a younger audience, its features make it a fun tool for kids of all ages.
